Soft Contact Lens Aftercare

At Niall O’Kane Optometrists, we provide comprehensive soft contact lens aftercare to ensure your lenses remain comfortable, safe and effective. Each aftercare appointment includes a thorough assessment of the entire front surface of the eye, including the cornea, conjunctiva, and eyelids, as well as a detailed tear film evaluation to ensure optimal eye health and lens comfort.

We also use corneal topography, a non-invasive scan that maps the curvature of the cornea. This allows us to detect subtle changes in corneal shape that could affect lens fit and vision, ensuring your lenses sit correctly and comfortably.

During your appointment, our optometrists will advise on the latest developments in contact lens materials and designs, helping you choose lenses that best suit your lifestyle, prescription, and ocular health. For all new lens fittings, we perform a dedicated teach appointment, providing step-by-step guidance on lens insertion, removal, care, and hygiene to build confidence and ensure safe lens wear.

Complex Contact lens fitting

Our Complex Contact Lens Fitting is a specialist examination designed for patients with irregular corneas, including conditions such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophies or corneal trauma. This advanced fitting uses cutting-edge technology to ensure lenses are comfortable, effective, and tailored to the unique shape of each eye.

During the examination, we use corneal topography, which maps the surface curvature of the cornea, and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT), providing detailed, high-resolution imaging of the front structures of the eye. These tools allow our optometrists to precisely design and fit specialised rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses or semi-scleral lenses, optimised for vision correction and comfort.

We also offer specialist hand-painted contact lenses for patients who wish to improve the cosmetic appearance of the eye due to corneal scars or abnormalities. These lenses are custom-designed to match the natural colour and appearance of the healthy eye, restoring confidence while maintaining optimal vision.
